Sestri Levante
Always beloved for its pleasant year-round weather and for the lovely landscape, Sestri Levante was chosen by visitors on the Grand Tour as their habitual residence.
Illustrious guests of Sestri, among others, included the writer Hans Christian Andersen, to whom Baia delle Favole owes its name, and whose work is honored in Sestri with the Andersen Prize (the Oscar of children’s books);
the composer Richard Wagner, who, surprised by a storm on the sea, recreated its billows and buffeting in the notes of some passages of Tetralogia; the scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who carried out numerous experiments in Sestri and gave his name to the Torre Marconi.
